It wasn’t a matter of timing that lost it for Gemmel. He knew Docherty would get him in a two-up sprint. He went at the most viable opportunity for the win. He had to take a flyer from that far from the finish to have any chance at all. He’s lucky he got second. Amazing tactics by both. It just panned out better for Docherty.
